Idea

What if we could rewrite the past to inspire future generations of women?

Shequel is a collection of rewritten classics in which women now have the leading role. By only changing the title character from “He” to “She” and keeping the plot untouched, we show that women can be compelling characters just like their male counterpart.

  • Insight: The majority of classic novels have a lack of compelling female leads.
  • Strategy: By specifically targeting classic literature, which is ubiquitously read in classrooms across the country, we had the most resounding impact among our target.

Read “The Adventures of Phoebe Fogg in Around the World in 80 Days.”

To create lasting change in our education system, we rewrote and printed the entirety of Jules Verne classic “Around the World in 80 Days” with a new heroine: Phoebe Fogg. The Shequel classic was adopted into the reading list of Local schools as a result.
